Jetts zooms toward expansion

Jetts Fitness has reached 101 not out to claim the title of Australia´s biggest gym chain.

Jetts, which was started on the Gold Coast in 2007 by local Brendon Levenson with just $150,000 in capital, has 101 clubs nationally with another 40 clubs scheduled to open this year.

"We looked at what the big chains were doing from a customer-service and value-for-dollar standpoint and decided to do the exact opposite," Mr Levenson said.

"Our market research indicated that the majority of our gym customers would happily forgo low usage facilities such as pools, saunas and crèches in favour of significantly lower membership fees, close-to-home locations and no lock-in contracts," he said.

Jetts has plans for 250 clubs by the end of 2012, putting a club within eight minutes of 80% of Australians. There are also plans to push into Asia within the next 18 months.

Jetts fitness has 90,000 members and clubs in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. Clubs are expected to open in the ACT and Northern Territory within the next six months.
