Females choose flexibility and stimulation over $$
Mortgage Choice discovered female potential franchisees see the ability to control their time and movements as the most important aspect of running their own business. Stimulation, challenge and personal achievement are almost as important.
The nation’s leading publicly listed franchisor commissioned its second annual Potential Franchisee Survey to uncover behaviour drivers for Australians looking to purchase a franchise in the next three years. 45% were female respondents.
Top reasons given for wanting to run their own business were:
1. 55% - Flexibility i.e. ability to control own time/movements/etc
2. 53% - Looking for stimulation, challenge and personal achievement
3. 49% - Improved lifestyle
4. 48% - Income potential
Females were less likely to say “break away from the corporate bureacracy’, at 16% compared to males’ 24%.
Biggest appeal of being part of a franchise system was:
1. Established franchisor brand recognition
2. Established business model to follow
3. Level of support provided by franchisor
Retail — food, restaurants and cafés (48%) remained the most popular industry then business and professional services (27%), followed by domestic services (23%), health, beauty and personal services (22%), and tourism, leisure and accommodation (20.1%).
22% of females are going it alone with their franchise purchase while 53% will enter into it with their partner/spouse (compared to a significantly higher 61% of males).
